Basic To Advanced RC Helicopters

by Rob Stone

RC Helicopters are a toy that many people enjoy ranging from small children right up to adulthood with the huge range of electric as well as petrol RC helicopters available on the market. Depending on what age range the helicopter is going to be for, depends on what model you should go for. If the rc helicopter is going to be for children, the most basic low cost model will provide any one at a youngish age with hours of enjoyment.

Basic RC helicopters usually come made from either a soft foam or a light plastic which means they do not need a great deal of power to both spin the rotor blades as well as fly through the air. There are many varieties of RC helicopter available with the simplest designs enabling those in control of the heli to move up, down, forward and back. The electric used to power these models usually lasts around 20 minute's depending on the size and weight of the helicopter. All that is needed to recharge an electric helicopter is to plug its power adapter into the mains and wait a short while.

The basic RC helicopter can be easily flown indoors and usually not designed for outdoors as the lightweight can make them uncontrollable but also be blown away by even the slightest breeze. Flying a basic model is very easy with helicopter being made from the light material as mentioned before if it was to collide with an object, then it is unlikely to break easily.

More advanced RC Helicopters can be found online or many model shops with many people dedicated many hours a week to this very popular hobby. There are usually social events where model enthusiasts can get together and talk about their RC Helicopter or maybe Nitro Car or Buggy which also have a huge following in the model industry.

Advanced RC Helicopters though are a different ballgame to the indoor children's toy orientated helicopters. For starters, the chassis usually comes made from a much tougher plastic, as well as higher models including actual metal rotor blades. The higher class of helicopters come with 4 or more channels which means they are completely controllable and go in any direction you ask them to. This includes banking left, right as well as performing some incredible stunts with practise as controlling a fully fledged RC Helicopter takes skill and practise as well as a licence in many countries due to the danger of a speeding helicopter and damage rotor blades can do in the wrong hands.

Either way, RC Helicopters are a superb range of models to take up as a hobby from any age to adulthood until you introduce them to your children in the future.
