Angular Cheilitis Symptoms Should Not Be Confused For Other Oral Diseases
by Karl White
Angular Cheilitis is a very common oral disease and many people suffer from it during the winter. Although the principle causes of this skin problem are not determined, the Angular Cheilitis symptoms are pretty clear. But sometimes people confuse these symptoms with other oral diseases such as, Rickets. The treatments for both these diseases are different, and the right diagnosis is always needed to prescribe the proper treatment. That is why you should be aware of the common and most obvious symptoms of this embarrassing problem.
Commonly known as chapped lips, this disease is not very serious. In fact, if you notice the Angular Cheilitis symptoms at an earlier stage you would not need any medications at all. The flaking of the lips skin is the most common symptom and it cannot be overlooked. As the diseases advances to the next stage, the patient starts to feel pain and burning because of the flaking. Inflammation around the borders and corners of the lips is very common. If they are not taken care of for a long time they can lead to external bleeding and cracking of the corners of the mouth.
While Rickets and other diseases attack the gum and the inside of the mouth, Angular Cheilitis symptoms are only seen in the outer part of the lips. And unlike other serious oral diseases, this one is not caused by bacteria or virus. So, the inflammation seen and the pain felt would not go away if outer care is not taken. However, if the Angular Cheilitis symptoms are ignored for a while, they can turn into infections by storing the remains of the food while eating. This infection can then cause other diseases and medications might be prescribed. The simple symptoms of such chapped lips should not be confused with other diseases as it might lead to misdiagnosis and mistreatment.
